Billings locksmiths since 1982
Independent Lock and Parts started serving Billings in 1982. Doug McGrail bought the business in 2009, and his son Quincy joined full time in 2015. It is still a family business, still mobile, and still built on integrity, reliability, and customer satisfaction.
Doug McGrail, owner
Doug was born and raised in Billings and purchased Independent Lock in 2009. He specializes in safe work: opening, combination changes, drilling and repair on gun safes, home safes, and commercial safes. He goes out of his way to make sure every customer is pleased with the work and with the personal service that comes with it.
Quincy McGrail
Quincy was also born and raised in Billings. He graduated from MSU-Billings in 2015 and shortly after came to work full time with his dad. Quincy specializes in access control and keyless entry and is great at every service we provide. He is not satisfied with the work until the customer is.
How we work
We are a mobile locksmith. There is no storefront to drive to; the van is the shop. Doug or Quincy comes to your home, business, or apartment building with the parts and the key machine, and most jobs are finished in a single visit.
Our service call starts at $65 plus parts and labor, with mileage outside Billings. Residential emergency calls during business hours start at $85. We quote before we start, and all of our work is guaranteed.
Where we work
Billings, Yellowstone County, and surrounding communities are home base. We regularly travel to Laurel, Lockwood, Columbus, Red Lodge, and the small towns in between, and we will go up to about 90 miles out, including Cody and Sheridan, Wyoming, when a customer needs us.
What we do not do
We do not replace lost automotive keys or program transponder keys. We will happily get you back into a locked car, but for a lost car key you will want a dealership or automotive key specialist.
